FH Renovation

The 2,100 sq. ft. house on Roselawn Avenue in Toronto was purchased by our clients with the intention of remaking it to reflect their specific aesthetic. The work included revisions to the basement including an in-law suite, an updated ground floor with a redesigned kitchen, all-new furniture, art and details.

The main objective throughout the renovation was to strike a balance between the modern, minimalist (almost stark) aesthetic the client was drawn to, and a sense of warmth, comfort, and durability. To achieve this, we worked with texture variations, such as the natural wood grain in the black-stained oak island, married with the matte and velvety texture of the black Fenix countertop. Additionally, the gently fluted texture of the kitchen backsplash adds a soft texture to the austerity of the white cabinetry.

The highly collaborative nature of the project meant the client was deeply involved in furniture selection, which added another layer of complexity: ensuring the interior design worked with their choices, not against them, to create a cohesive whole. These challenges became opportunities to create something personal, distinctive, and to push our own design boundaries.
